Speaking to reporters aboard the papal plane en route to Algeria, Pope Leo XIV delivered a message centred on peace, dialogue, and his spiritual mission. He emphasised that his role is not political, but rooted in faith and the teachings of the Gospel.

“I think that the people who read will be able to draw their own conclusions: I am not a politician, I have no intention of entering into a debate with him,” the Pope stated. He urged that efforts should instead focus on unity, adding, “let us always seek peace and put an end to wars.”

In a notable part of his remarks, Pope Leo XIV said, “I am not afraid of the Trump administration. I speak about the Gospel, I am not a politician.” He continued by warning that “the message of the Gospel should [not] be abused,” while reaffirming his commitment to speak out “against war” and promote “multilateral dialogue between states.”

He concluded by highlighting global suffering, noting that “too many people are suffering in the world,” while stressing that the Church’s message remains one of peace and reconciliation.
