The funeral cortege of Mons. Vinċenz Deguara marked a deeply prayerful moment in Ħal Qormi, as the faithful gathered in a spirit of prayer to give thanks to God for his life and priestly vocation. The cortege departed from Mater Dei Hospital at 3:15pm, making its way to the Church of St Sebastian, where it paused for final prayers and tributes. Along the route, several associations offered their last respects, reflecting the strong spiritual bond he shared with the community.

Throughout the day, an atmosphere of silence and prayer prevailed. People present in Ħal Qormi also spoke with News Of Malta of his “life of holiness”, noting how many people who knew him regarded him as “a saint” even during his lifetime.

His body remained exposed for public veneration, while a vigil of prayer for priests and seminarians was led by Archbishop Charles Scicluna.

Mons. Deguara, who passed away at the age of 94, was often heard saying he was “happy to be a priest”, a testimony to his lifelong fidelity to God’s call.

The faithful will have the opportunity to pay their respects on Sunday 26 April 2026 from 7:30am until 11:30am at the Knisja ż-Żgħira. At 3:00pm, the funeral cortege will proceed to the Archpriestal Church, followed by the solemn funeral Mass praesente cadavere at 3:30pm, led by Archbishop Scicluna.

It was also confirmed that after the funeral celebrations and cortege on Sunday, his remains will be laid to rest in a specially prepared tomb within the crypt of the Archpriestal Church.
