Prime Minister Robert Abela unveiled four major worker-centred proposals during a large May Day rally in Castille Square.

Addressing thousands of supporters, Abela said the initiatives will form part of Labour’s electoral manifesto ahead of the 30 May election. He stressed that Malta leads Europe in job creation.

The proposals include: granting workers the right to request remote working, flexi-time or compressed weeks, with financial support for accepting employers; a new €500 annual fund for every child, accumulating up to €5,000 for education and upskilling; full pension adjustments for former disciplined services members; and expanded tax relief for part-time workers, raising the 10% reduced rate threshold to €15,000 for employees and €20,000 for the self-employed.

“Great successes lie ahead,” said Prime Minister Robert Abela, urging supporters to spread the party’s message for a better quality of life for families, youth, workers and pensioners.
