More than €70.5 million in payments were processed by the Agriculture and Rural Payments Agency (ARPA) in 2025 under various EU and national schemes — a 45% increase over the previous year. The funds provided direct support to farmers and herders, modernised farms, and strengthened rural communities across Malta and Gozo.

The announcement was made during a visit to a dairy farm in San Ġwann by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Anton Refalo and Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, who met young farmer Joseph Mizzi and his father, both beneficiaries of EU aid schemes for farm modernisation and youth investment.

Minister Refalo said the results show how EU and national funds are “reaching those who work the land and produce local food,” enhancing competitiveness, sustainability, and innovation in Maltese agriculture. He added, “This is an investment in our people, our farmers, and herders — a pillar of our nation’s identity and food security.”

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi commended young farmers using EU funding to strengthen their operations, saying, “European funds are not just about infrastructure — they are investments in people, workers, and families.”
