The Labour Party has criticised the Nationalist Party following its call for the resignation of Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, saying the Opposition is more interested in political gain than in offering solutions to the country’s challenges.
The Labour Party said the PN’s demand for Minister Dalli’s resignation “confirms once again that, when faced with every challenge, the Opposition’s only interest is not to offer solutions, but to seek political gain and demand resignations.” It described this as an approach that has been adopted by the Nationalist Party for many years and argued that it does not provide practical solutions for Maltese and Gozitan families or businesses.
The statement defended Minister Dalli’s record, highlighting that she is overseeing what it described as the largest investment programme ever undertaken in Malta’s electricity distribution network. It also referred to the ongoing second interconnector project, which it said will further strengthen the country’s energy security.
According to the Labour Party, Minister Dalli also secured a new energy supply agreement at the beginning of the current legislature, providing greater certainty while allowing the Government to keep electricity and energy prices stable despite continued inflation in international markets.
Referring to the recent power outages, the Labour Party said that periods of extreme weather require political maturity, arguing that the priority should be assisting affected residents rather than engaging in partisan politics.
The statement concluded by saying that the Labour Government will remain focused on investing in national infrastructure, strengthening the electricity network and ensuring a stable energy supply while maintaining stable energy prices for families and businesses.
