Prime Minister Robert Abela has visited the specialised police squad dedicated to Paceville, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen police presence, public order and security in areas facing increased challenges, particularly during the summer months.
Accompanied by Home Affairs and Security Minister Glenn Bedingfield and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà, Abela met officers working daily in the area.
The Prime Minister said the Government would continue investing in greater police presence and necessary resources to keep Malta safe. He said everyone should live “with respect towards one another and with the maintenance of good order”.
Abela also said tourists visiting Malta should enjoy the country’s attractions while reciprocating respect towards Maltese citizens, describing the squad’s work as important in this regard.
Officially operational since May, the Paceville squad consists of 23 constables and eight sergeants, bringing the total to 31 officers. Its work includes modern policing methods and cooperation with the Malta Tourism Authority, Towncentre Management and specialised police sections.
The squad’s work complements community policing in areas including Swieqi, St Julian’s, Gżira and Buġibba.
The visit also highlighted new rules allowing immediate on-the-spot payment of fines by non-Malta residents for minor offences and contraventions.
