The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association has called for firm action following media reports of intimidation, shouting and aggressive behaviour involving a group of individuals in St Julian’s.
“Those responsible must be identified, apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” MHRA said, expressing deep concern over the incident reported by residents.
The association stressed that Malta welcomes millions of visitors every year and that the overwhelming majority respect the country, its people and its laws. However, it warned that anyone who comes to Malta “to behave like a thug, intimidate others or engage in violence has no place in our country”.
MHRA said strong enforcement is essential to protect communities and preserve Malta’s international reputation. The association also expressed its full support for action by the Malta Police Force, with whom it works closely.
“The reckless actions of a small minority must never be allowed to tarnish Malta’s reputation,” MHRA warned, noting that tourism provides a livelihood for thousands of Maltese and Gozitan families.
Its final message was unequivocal: “Everyone is welcome in Malta—provided they respect our people, our laws and our way of life. Thugs are not.”
