“Do you remember the editorials? Now they have gone silent,” says Azzopardi

Lawyer and former MP Jason Azzopardi has questioned what he described as media silence over a court judgment which stated that Andrea Prudente “ended up being used” by “so-called pro-choice” people seeking to advance a more extreme legal change.

Writing on social media, Azzopardi asked how “nobody in the media” had spoken about the judgment delivered this week. He highlighted a passage directly from the court decision.

The judgment states that Prudente, after her own research and information received from pro-choice doctors, feared she could die from septicaemia unless her pregnancy was terminated.

The court said the mother was subjected to fear and strong emotional pressure. It then stated: “The Court has no hesitation in saying that this woman ended up being used by people, so-called pro-choice, to push forward, without considering her emotions and those of the father, the more extreme legal change desired by them.”

The judgment itself added in English: “she played ball to their beliefs.”

Reacting to the passage, Azzopardi emphasised: “She was used!” He also questioned the silence of media editorials, saying: “Do you remember the editorials? Now they have gone silent.”

Azzopardi said the court’s remarks reflected what he had previously written. He added that he had faced a libel case over his comments and that the action against him was unsuccessful.
