Shadow Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici has criticised a political culture which prioritizes propaganda over substance, describing recent government actions as “counterproductive and obscuring.” Writing in Il-Mument, he warned that “where every supposed ‘mistake’ or ‘defect’ must be magnified and turned into terms of propaganda spread and condemnation in every form and manner,” politics risks losing its integrity.
He argued that such tactics reveal “that the ideas within government have declined, and it has lost much of the momentum it pretends to have.” Mifsud Bonnici said recent political moves have not strengthened leadership but shown signs of panic. “The government’s motion was meant to be a counterattack,” he wrote, “but instead it was counterproductive and obscured those who brought it forward.”
Reflecting on recent parliamentary events, he noted that “the government this week found itself debating a motion that did not need to be presented,” describing this as “a sign of panic.” He concluded that such reactive strategies “may signal not confidence, but confusion.”
