Inspector Alfredo Mangion has been awarded Ġieħ iż-Żurrieq during a ceremony organised by the Żurrieq Local Council in recognition of his actions earlier this year.
The honour was presented following an incident in which Inspector Mangion, despite being off duty, immediately responded after being informed that several items had allegedly been stolen from the Żurrieq parish church.
Inspector Mangion acted swiftly and decisively, locating the individual involved and carrying out an arrest. His intervention took place outside his official working hours, highlighting what was described as a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to public service.
The recognition was awarded in appreciation of his prompt response and dedication to duty. The case has since been cited as an example of the professionalism shown by police officers, even when they are not officially on duty.
The award ceremony formed part of the local council’s efforts to acknowledge individuals who have made a positive contribution to the community through their actions and service.
