PN MP Conrad Borg Manche has issued a statement defending comments he made in recent days, insisting that some politicians are attempting to create controversy rather than address what he actually said.
Borg Manche stressed that he has “never attacked any person because of their sexual orientation” and has never proposed removing or reducing civil rights from anyone. He added that he has publicly stated that he loves and respects everyone, regardless of their choices, and considers the dignity of every individual to be important.
He argued that those claiming otherwise either misunderstood his remarks or are “intentionally trying to create a false narrative.” According to Borg Manche, equality means that everyone enjoys the same rights and dignity, but it also means that individuals should be free to express differing opinions without being labelled, demonised, or accused of things they never said.
He emphasised that his comments were not directed at the rights of adults. Instead, he said he was speaking about children and the role of parents in their upbringing. “I spoke about children and about the right of parents to have a leading role in raising them,” he stated.
Borg Manche also criticised what he described as a political culture focused on fear, labels, and personal attacks rather than serious debate. He concluded by reaffirming his belief in “respect and dignity” for all people, while maintaining that parents should remain central figures in their children’s upbringing.
