The Partit Nazzjonalista has announced a wide package of proposals aimed at supporting young people, students, and first-time buyers in Malta, with PN Leader Alex Borg saying that “young people deserve a better future in their own country.”
Speaking during a press conference alongside candidates Bernice Bonello and Joseph Grech, Borg said many young Maltese feel they are struggling to save enough money to buy their first property or start a family, despite studying and working hard. He described affordable housing as one of the biggest challenges currently affecting Maltese and Gozitan families.
Among the main proposals announced were five years without income tax for young people starting work, assistance for first-home deposits, and a scheme refunding 50% of home loan interest for the first 10 years. Borg also pledged a 25% increase in stipends and a “Youth Pension Kick Start” scheme, where the government would deposit €1,000 yearly into private pension accounts for five years.
Other proposals included wider stamp duty exemptions for first-time buyers, additional support for student parents, more mental health services, and improved access to sexual health clinics.
Borg stated that “young people should be the catalysts of our country.”
