The Partit Nazzjonalista has unveiled a series of proposals aimed at improving conditions for members of Malta’s disciplined forces, including salary increases, pension reforms, new police stations, and stronger investment in security infrastructure.
During a press conference focused on national security, PN Leader Alex Borg praised members of Malta’s law enforcement and disciplined corps, thanking them for their work “for the good of the Maltese and Gozitan people.” He stressed the importance of the state fully supporting these workers in carrying out their duties.
Among the main proposals announced were:
- Better salaries and improved working conditions for members of the disciplined forces
- A new system allowing officers to receive both their salary and pension after 25 years of service if they remain in employment
- Annual pension revisions for retired members to reflect modern realities and rank held at retirement
- Measures to address injustices suffered by disciplined force workers
- New investment in advanced technology to fight drug trafficking at ports
- The opening of new police stations and renovation of existing ones
- Strategic investment in the modernisation of the Armed Forces of Malta
- A prison system focused on “discipline with dignity,” rehabilitation and reform
- A new internal system for the Civil Protection Department to access building plans during emergencies
PN candidate Darren Carabott explained that the salary-and-pension benefit could continue for up to 10 years after officers complete 25 years of service. He also said a future Nationalist government would introduce schemes encouraging former disciplined force members to return to service.
Carabott added that community policing offices would once again become police stations as part of plans to strengthen security in towns and villages across Malta and Gozo.
