Nationalist Party Promises Pension Increases and Better Healthcare

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg has called on the public to “give this country the fresh breath it truly deserves” during a political activity held in Valletta on 11 May 2026. Addressing supporters, Borg urged people to “make the choice that is best for you, your family, and those you love,” while describing the election as a crucial moment for Malta’s future.

Borg said the country is facing important decisions about whether families can continue living with a decent quality of life, whether young people can afford to buy a home, and whether Malta can stop losing talent abroad. He stressed that “every vote will choose a direction” and determine the kind of country left for future generations.

During the activity, Borg compared the two major political parties, claiming the Labour Party is focused on protecting power, while the Nationalist Party is focused on improving people’s lives. He said a Nationalist Government would prioritise healthcare and investment in medicines. He also highlighted proposals including state-paid doctors visiting elderly people at home, pension increases of €650 annually, tax rebates linked to private pension schemes, and increased grants for elderly people who continue living independently.

Other proposals included reducing the pension contribution deducted from people in residential care from 70% to 50%. Borg insisted the Nationalist Party remains “determined to stay positive” and committed to offering practical solutions for families, pensioners, self-employed workers and young people.
