Borg promises an open door at Castille for all Maltese and Gozitans

Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg called for a fresh start for Malta and Gozo as he addressed supporters at the party’s May Day mass rally in Ħal Lija.

“Let us together give a new breath to this Malta of ours. Malta that we love so much. I came forward because I love Malta and Gozo. I want to see a Malta that shines. I want to see a Malta where you can breathe again,” said Alex Borg.

Speaking on Workers’ Day, Borg paid tribute to Maltese and Gozitan workers, describing them as the backbone of the country. He recalled the 22nd anniversary of Malta’s EU membership, crediting former Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami’s vision for opening doors to education and employment opportunities.

Borg emphasised that the upcoming 30 May election represents a crucial decision for the nation’s future.

He strongly criticised the Labour government’s failures in the health sector and presented the PN’s ambitious vision. This includes a major hospital investment programme over the first five years: €120 million for Mater Dei Hospital, a new 250-bed hospital in Northern Malta (€160 million), a 250-bed hospital in Paola (€80 million), a new 400-bed hospital in Gozo (€350 million), and a 60-bed Health National Park (€20 million).

Borg also pledged a monthly €1,000 stipend for students training to become nurses, midwives, doctors, or other health professionals.
On quality of life, he promised no tax on the first €10,000 earned from overtime and part-time work, and a Child Trust Fund of €5,000 for every newborn, accessible at age 20.

To tackle work-related stress — which affects 57% of Maltese workers, 18% above the EU average — a future PN government would offer a 150% tax deduction on expenses for employee mental health assistance programmes.

Borg stressed that under a Nationalist government, people would work to live, not live to work, while committing to reduce bureaucracy and ease the cost-of-living burden on families and young couples.

He concluded by promising an open door at Castille for all Maltese and Gozitans from day one.
