Dr Lydia Abela visited the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS), where she met with students, educators, and staff who contribute daily to strengthening skills in the tourism and hospitality sector. During the visit, she praised the institute’s role, noting that since its establishment in 1987, it has served as “a leading school in the formation of professionals” in a sector considered a key pillar of Malta’s economy.

She highlighted how ITS provides hands-on experience through “specialised courses, modern laboratories, training kitchens, and practical hospitality spaces,” allowing students to prepare for real working environments. The institute also offers learning pathways ranging from basic levels up to Master’s level, enabling students to progress according to their abilities and ambitions.

Dr Abela referred to proposals within the ‘Int Malta’ Manifesto, stating they show how support for young people continues “at every step they take in their lives.” She added that initiatives include “a further 15% increase in the stipend” and “a grant of €1,000” for students participating in international experiences such as Erasmus+.

During the visit, she toured facilities, joined discussions, and participated in activities with students.
