PN Leader Promises Tax Cuts for Pensioners and Mass Transport Plan

Opposition leader Alex Borg has announced that the Nationalist Party will present a private members’ bill addressing loneliness, stating that “no one should be left behind, no one should feel alone. Everyone should be part of our society.” He made the remarks during a Sunday activity in Qrendi, emphasising that even from Opposition, the party is committed to improving mental health support.

During his speech, Borg also proposed the introduction of a fixed-term system for general elections, where the election date would be set at the start of a legislature. He argued this would reduce uncertainty affecting families and businesses, which he attributed to the current administration led by Robert Abela. Despite this, he affirmed that the PN is prepared for an election “whenever it is called.”

Borg highlighted the party’s recent renewal through newly approved candidates and noted the determination he observed among young people to build their future in Malta. He also criticised delays in plans for mass transport, stating that commitments have been postponed. He pledged that, if elected Prime Minister, work on mass transport would begin within the first 100 days, with the first line opening within five years.

Additional proposals included tax exemptions on pension income up to €34,000 and measures addressing rising property prices and quality of life concerns.
