A statement by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government has announced that children living in the Cottonera area will once again have the opportunity to attend free athletics training sessions during the upcoming summer. The initiative will take place at the De La Salle College and will focus on running, jumping, and other athletic disciplines aimed at improving skills and encouraging physical activity.

The announcement was made by Alison Zerafa Civelli during the signing of an agreement between the Fondazzjoni Kottonera, represented by Chairperson Joe Mizzi, and the La Salle Athletics Club, represented by Tara Abdilla. Zerafa Civelli stated that the foundation continues to play an important role in community life, noting that “from a young age we nurture sporting discipline in our children so they can live healthier lives.”
Joe Mizzi explained that the initiative forms part of a wider range of cultural, social, and sporting activities aimed at providing quality opportunities within Cottonera. Tara Abdilla added that the club is pleased to “give something back to the community” through this programme.
The sessions will be held in July and August, every Tuesday and Friday between 18:30 and 20:00, and will be open to primary school students from Bormla, Birgu, Isla, and Kalkara.
