The Isla Local Council, has officially begun a process to restore the city’s historical name from “Isla” back to “Senglea.” This initiative, “as announced during the Easter period,” aims to reconnect the locality with its historical identity while engaging residents in the decision-making process.
In the coming days, authorities confirmed that “a booklet and an accompanying letter will be delivered to every home in our city.” These materials are intended to provide clear explanations of “the historical background and the purpose of this initiative,” ensuring that residents are fully informed about the reasoning behind the proposed change.
Residents are being strongly encouraged to participate in the consultation. The statement urges the community to “take an active part in the public consultation, so that everyone has the opportunity to express their views on this important matter concerning our city’s name and identity.” Officials emphasized that the identity of the city belongs to its people, making public feedback essential.
The consultation marks an important step in shaping Senglea’s future while respecting its past.
