Prime Minister Robert Abela has officially inaugurated the National Tennis Centre in Pembroke, describing the project as a major investment in a sport that had long required stronger support. With an investment of €2.8 million, the centre transforms a previously abandoned site into a modern facility, giving new momentum to the development of tennis in Malta.

The project was led by SportMalta in collaboration with the Malta Tennis Padel Federation, ensuring that the facility meets high standards and the needs of athletes. The centre includes six tennis courts with an ITF-approved Greenset playing surface, similar to that used at the Australian Open, along with high-quality LED lighting and spectator areas. Additional facilities include a physiotherapy room, athlete spaces, and administrative offices.

During the inauguration, the Prime Minister highlighted Malta’s recent progress in tennis, noting that in the last two editions of the Games of the Small States of Europe, the country won ten medals, three of them gold. He explained that this project complements other investments in sports infrastructure, including facilities in Ta’ Qali, Marsa, and Gozo, while further projects are already underway.

Officials also emphasised that the centre will serve as a hub for training, competitions, and youth development, supporting both local athletes and future talent.
