A new MRI machine has been inaugurated at San Vinċenz de Paul through an investment of around €1.8 million, co-financed by European funds. The launch was attended by Health and Active Ageing Minister Jo Etienne Abela, European Funds Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, and Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Paul Agius Galea.

The new 1.5T MRI was described as a major improvement in the quality of services offered, allowing for “more complex examinations with a high level of precision.” According to the statement, this is expected to lead to better diagnosis and more effective treatment for patients. The MRI service is set to begin operating next week, supported by four new radiographers who have joined San Vinċenz de Paul.
The service will be available to residents as well as patients aged 60 and over, as part of a wider strategy to reduce pressure on Mater Dei Hospital and shorten waiting times. Minister Abela said the government has continued investing in the Diagnostic Imaging Unit, with total capital investment exceeding €5 million, and added that around 5,000 people are expected to benefit in the first year.
Officials also said the project strengthens Malta’s healthcare system through modern technology, expanded services, and more convenient care for older persons.
