The museum and cultural centre Il-Ħaġar in Victoria, Gozo has been further strengthened as a modern hub for conferences and events following a recent renovation project supported by the MICE Restoration Scheme. The initiative aims to create “more economic opportunities, higher-quality visitors, and increased activity throughout the year.”
The project was inaugurated by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, who stated that the investment reflects ongoing collaboration between the Ministry and local organisations. He explained that the project continues to build quality infrastructure that not only enhances the cultural sector but also opens new opportunities in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector. He added that Gozo “has enormous potential” and that efforts are ongoing to transform this into a reality through sustainable, year-round experiences.
Significant upgrades were carried out within the museum, including improvements to air-conditioning systems and the installation of a lift with enhanced access control for increased safety. The site is now equipped with modern audiovisual technology, including streaming systems, projectors, and professional sound equipment, allowing events to be followed both locally and internationally. Additional investment was made in conference furniture and security systems.
Since opening in 2013, Il-Ħaġar has served as an important cultural centre in Gozo. The €37,000 project, partly funded by over €18,300 through the scheme, continues to strengthen its role.
