A delegation of 41 Regional Presidents, Mayors, Councillors, and officials from Malta has travelled to Cagliari for the second round of discussions linked to the SOuSeEU (Southern European Union) project. The group includes Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli, executive secretaries, and representatives from the Local Government Division and the National Audit Office.
The initiative is described as “a vital initiative, spearheaded by the Local Councils Association Malta in partnership with AICCRE Italia,” aiming “to unite local governments across Southern Europe and other island states.” The project focuses on strengthening cooperation while promoting “political collaboration and drive sustainable development through innovative ideas and initiatives.”
Discussions in Sardinia bring together Maltese representatives with mayors from Sicily and Sardinia to address “the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our communities.” The delegation is expected to explore strategies that support regional growth and long-term cooperation.
Northern Region President and Ambassador Clifford Galea highlighted the importance of unity, stating that the initiative represents a step toward “building a stronger, more resilient Southern Europe that uplifts all our island nations.” He emphasised the role of local governance in shaping practical solutions.
The visit continues with further meetings aimed at reinforcing collaboration across Mediterranean regions.
