Pope Leo XIV has released his prayer intention for the month of March, inviting Catholics around the world to join him in praying “for disarmament and peace.” The intention was shared through The Pope Video, an initiative promoted by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network and distributed across the global Catholic community.
In the message, the Holy Father reflects on humanity’s shared dignity, recalling that God “has shaped every human being in His image and likeness.” He stresses that humanity was created “for communion, not for war,” and “for fraternity, not for destruction.” The Pope’s reflection calls believers to renew their commitment to peace and reconciliation at a time when global tensions remain high.
Pope Leo XIV also prays that nations may reject violence and instead pursue dialogue. “Today, we lift up our prayer for peace in the world, asking that nations renounce weapons and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy,” he says. He further asks God to help humanity “disarm our hearts of hatred, resentment, and indifference,” so that people may become “instruments of reconciliation.”
The Pope emphasises that authentic security cannot be built on fear. Instead, he says, “true security does not come from control fueled by fear, but from trust, justice, and solidarity among peoples.”
Finally, the Holy Father calls on world leaders to act responsibly, praying that “the nuclear threat may never again dictate the future of humanity.”
