Fifty-six sports organisations have been formally presented with their registration certificates by the Maltese Sport Integrity Authority (AiMS), after completing the required documentation process outlined in the legislation regulating the registration of sporting entities in Malta. Under Chapter 626 of the Laws of Malta, all sports organisations must be registered in the Register for Sporting Persons, administered by AiMS.
During a ceremony held at the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, officials from these organisations received their certificates, confirming full compliance with current legislation. Addressing the Presidents and Secretaries General present, Minister Clifton Grima said that registration is “crucial for the very existence of any sports organisation” as it grants them legal personality. He reminded attendees that no sporting organisation may obtain such status through the Malta Business Registry unless it is already registered with AiMS.
Minister Grima noted that the 56 organisations can now continue applying for various government funds, including SportMalta schemes supporting training, international competitions, and sport development. AiMS Chairman Judge Antonio Mizzi said the achievement is important not only for associations and federations but also for clubs, academies, coaches, athletes and parents, describing the certificate as a “stamp of professionalism.” AiMS CEO Kevin Azzopardi highlighted the REGitALL scheme, which provided specialised professional assistance to help organisations complete the legal requirements. He encouraged all registered organisations to uphold good governance and support member clubs in beginning their registration process.
