Momentum has filed a Freedom of Information (FOI) request with the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, citing “serious concern and lack of clear information” about the proposed Marsaskala regeneration project. The Party said the government’s “continued secrecy” surrounds plans that could significantly affect residents and the bay’s environment.
Momentum stated that although the project is being promoted as a “beautification” of the promenade, it in fact “includes the introduction of a fast ferry terminal, with all that it entails.” Through its FOI request, it is seeking access to documents, studies, financial details, and technical plans. The group argues that “residents deserve to know exactly what is planned for their locality before irreversible decisions are taken.”
The request asks for full financial allocations, “to scale” plans for the terminal and related infrastructure, studies justifying Marsaskala as the chosen site, and assessments of environmental, social, and traffic impacts. It also seeks information on alternatives such as increased public transport, shuttle services, or bike lanes.
“The secrecy the government is maintaining over this project is unacceptable,” said Mark Camilleri Gambin. He added that advancing such a project “without publishing studies” is “irresponsible.”
Momentum said it expects the Ministry to fulfil its obligations under the Freedom of Information Act.
