A press release issued by the Labour Party on Thursday stated that a ruling by the Speaker of the House “confirmed another lie by the Opposition and its media about Minister Byron Camilleri.” The party said that the Nationalist Party (PN) must “comply with the Speaker’s ruling immediately.”
According to the statement, the dispute began after the Opposition’s Home Affairs spokesperson made “statements on the Police Force in haste,” prompting further allegations that Minister Camilleri had attempted to blame a Magistrate during a parliamentary exchange. The Labour Party said that during Wednesday’s sitting, the Minister requested a ruling, which was delivered the following morning, establishing that reports by MPs Darren Carabott and Joe Giglio, along with Net News, were “a lie.”
Quoting the ruling, the Labour Party highlighted: “At no time did he say or was blaming the Magistrate as reported in the Net News portal and stated in the Nationalist Party statement.” The Speaker ordered the PN to amend its statement and for Net News to correct its reporting “at the earliest opportunity.”
Minister Camilleri reacted by criticising what he described as the Opposition’s “arrogance,” stating he would continue exposing “its lies,” while emphasising his support for the Police Force in its work against drug trafficking.
