Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Party Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs Ian Borg said that “there can be no compromise on our national interests and our social-democratic values.” He made the statement as he concluded the second session of the Labour Party’s Annual General Conference, emphasising that this work is grounded in daily engagement with people and driven by the Labour Government’s commitment to social justice.
Borg highlighted Malta’s recognition of the State of Palestine, reaffirming that the country’s military neutrality “should never be compromised with anything or anyone.” He added that Malta is proud of its 21 years of membership in the European Union, while also stressing the need for “good relations with other countries such as China and the United States,” as Malta must always safeguard its own interests.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Labour Party’s parliamentary group is “dynamic,” with both cabinet and backbench members contributing ideas that deliver tangible benefits for citizens. He argued that people continue to place their trust in Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Labour Party because it offers “a long-term vision for the country” while addressing people’s immediate needs.
Borg concluded that the Labour Party must “remain close to the people, meeting them door to door,” underlining that with Robert Abela’s leadership, “Malta should always come first and foremost.”
