Opposition leader Alex Borg announced three new proposals during a mass rally in Birkirkara, aimed at reducing taxes on inheritance and family property transfers.
Speaking during the event, Borg stated that “a new Nationalist Government will ensure that inheritance transfers are not taxed, succession tax on family businesses is removed, and tax on property donations is abolished.” He described the measures as part of a wider plan to support families and help young people access more affordable housing.
The proposals include removing all tax and stamp duty on transfers linked to inheritance, abolishing succession tax on family businesses, and eliminating taxes on property donations passed from parents to children or grandchildren. Borg explained that the exemption would apply to all forms of immovable property.
During his speech, Borg also referred to recently announced economic initiatives, including the “Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub,” investments in Data, AI and New Space industries, and the PORT cultural district project in Marsa.
He said these measures are intended to create “a fair economy that improves the lives of the many, not the few,” while helping families, workers, patients, and young people planning to buy their first property.
