Prime Minister and Labour Leader Robert Abela declared that “now is the time to write the next chapter for our people” as he closed the Malta Aqwa Congress 2026 on Friday evening, addressing a large crowd.

In a speech described as forward-looking, he said Malta has already “built a successful country… but now the time has come for a stronger Malta,” adding that ideas gathered during the congress will shape the next electoral manifesto. “You are building the Malta you want… we are turning your ideas into our project,” he stated.
Referring to global challenges, including rising fuel prices abroad, Dr Abela maintained that “in Malta everything remained stable,” attributing this to careful leadership and planning. He reaffirmed that the government will continue reducing tax burdens, spreading economic prosperity, and investing in social measures to support families and businesses.
He also pointed to initiatives such as increased children’s allowance, free childcare, tax cuts, and pension increases, while highlighting the Vision Malta 2050 consultation as a roadmap for future development.
Concluding, he emphasised unity and resilience, stating that “Malta – certainty and stability… together we write the next chapter.”
